For Adventures that are out of this World

ABOUT THE BOAT

Alien III My interpretation of "Alien" is "Out of this world" and sailing is another world. Alien III is an Australian registered boat, (36 feet) 11 metres long, Roberts "spray" design. An older style boat of 12 tonnes displacement and built of steel. It took me 5 years to build and has proved to be a good seaworthy and comfortable boat.

It is powered  by a four cylinder diesel motor if we have no wind. Lights, electronics, refrigerator, pressure pump etc are solar powered by four large panels and a bank of four batteries.

We carry 300 litres of diesel and 500 litres of water normally, but on long trips we carry extra. The boat has a double forward cabin with full head room, and a double cabin under the cockpit and a single bunk. The dining table will make another double. But mostly there is a maximum of 5 on board. The dining table seats 5. There is plenty of space outside, some of it in the shade even while under sail.

In December 1999 and January 2000 the boat underwent a major maintenance program. It was slipped and the bottom was sandblasted, inspected, painted and anti-fouled. All the rigging wires have been replaced along with numerous other jobs and she is in excellent condition.
